Choosing a Pet Sitter
Choosing a pet sitter can be daunting--after all, the pet sitter you select will be responsible for the well-being of your best furry friends, not to mention your home and your property.
The following articles may help you to know what to look for when deciding on a pet sitter:

Give us a call!
We'd be delighted to hear from you by phone (206.297.1834) or by email (connie@whileyouwereoutpetcare.com). We will answer any questions you might have, and collect some preliminary information about you, your pets, and the kinds of services you are interested in.
We can also schedule your free consultation so that everyone--whether 2-legged or 4-legged--can be introduced.

Free Consultation
The most important aspect of the initial consultation is to make sure that everyone gets along well! Therefore, our focus at the consultation will be to meet you and your pets, and to make sure that all of your questions are answered. You are under no obligation to continue beyond this consultation if you don't feel that While You Were Out Pet Care is a good match for you and your pets. We know that not every pet sitter is perfect for every family, and we want you to find the sitter you feel the most comfortable with!

The Next Step
Once you feel comfortable working with While You Were Out Pet Care, we can get you set up for your first service:
- We will fill out a set of detailed forms with information about your pets--their care and feeding, behavior, schedules, likes & dislikes, medical issues, locations of all necessary supplies, and much more.
- We will collect additional information about your home and property--key and security alarm details, plant care, schedules for garbage and recycling service, and more.
- We will provide you with an estimate for your service, and sign a contract detailing the services While You Were Out Pet Care will provide.
- You will receive copies of all forms for your records.
- Finally, we will take two copies of the keys needed to access your home. The "backup" key will be kept in a locked safe at the While You Were Out Pet Care office and used only in case of emergency (such as a broken or misplaced key). You can choose to have us keep your keys for use in the future (see "Later Service," below), or to have your keys returned to you.

Starting Service
Each time we visit your pets, we will fill out a Dog Report Card and/or a Cat Report Card detailing that visit's activities, your pets' general moods and activity levels, any changes in behavior, and more. Dog walking clients, you can also leave notes for us on your Daily Dog Walking Report Card.
For your very first visit, you may be curious (or even nervous!) about how things went. If you like, we can also send you an email message with a brief update so that you can find out how your pets are doing before you get home to read our notes.

Later Service
While You Were Out Pet Care will keep all of your information on file, so setting up additional service later is a breeze! Just contact us by phone or email with the dates you have in mind and any changes to how we will care for your pets and your property. We'll make sure that all of your information is up to date and get you scheduled.
If you have chosen to have us keep your keys, you'll need to do nothing further. If we no longer have your keys, there will be a $15 fee to pick up your keys.
Remember that the more notice you can give us, the more likely we will be to have openings in our schedule. Especially during the holidays, dates can book up quickly!
