Our Mission
At While You Were Out Pet Care, we know how hard it can be to leave your pets behind, whether it's while you're out of town or just away for long work days. Our goal is to provide professional, conscientious, and loving care for your pets and your property--so that you can get away with the peace of mind that your best friends are in good hands.

How We Do It
Figuring out how to achieve our mission was simple: we thought about what would make us feel comfortable and at ease about leaving our own pets! We knew we'd want a pet sitter who:
- Genuinely cares about and adores our pets.
- Is easy to contact for reservations, questions, or updates on our pets.
- Has a reasonable contract outlining exactly what the pet sitter will do, and how, and for what price.
- Completes thorough, explicit forms to make sure that the sitter has all the information needed to care for our pets no matter what circumstances might arise.
- Has in place systems to safeguard the security of our keys and other personal information.
- Has backup plans in case the sitter is incapacitated or other emergencies occur.
Then it was a simple matter of making all those things happen! And when we were finished, we were confident that we were offering the very best service possible. We hope you will agree.

Our People
While You Were Out Pet Care is fully owned and operated by Seattle native and UW graduate Connie Schachtel--with significant input from her dog Quoia, and her four cats Athena, Spooky, Nougat, and Casey.
Connie has owned and adored pets her entire life, and she has cared for the pets of out-of-town friends and family for as long as she can remember. However, it was really thanks to her volunteer experience at the Seattle Animal Shelter that Connie decided she ultimately wanted to pursue a career in animal care.
Now, all Connie has to do is look at a calendar filled with names like Simon, Hershey, Lily, Cody, Oscar, and many more to realize how fortunate she is to spend her days with such wonderful pets!

Our History
Connie spent several years owning and operating a successful high-tech consulting company--which she found enjoyable, but sadly lacking in canine and feline company! During this time she also found that she often had difficulty determining how to best care for her pets while she was away from home.
Founding a pet sitting company seemed the perfect way for Connie to take advantage of her business skills while doing what she truly loves--spending time with and caring for animals. Thus While You Were Out Pet Care was born!

Quoia, our wonderful Australian Cattle Dog, seen here guarding her Elmo. Quoia was pregnant when the Seattle Animal Shelter found her. We fostered "Mama Dog" and her 8 puppies until all of the puppies found homes, but we just couldn't part with Mama!

All of our pets were adopted from the Seattle Animal Shelter. You can view photos and descriptions of animals available for adoption on the Web site. It's a wonderful place to find a new family member!

Athena was our very first baby. She was orphaned at just 2 weeks old, and bottle-fed by a Seattle Animal Shelter volunteer...until she came home to us!

Nougat got very, very sick at the shelter, so we brought her home to try to make her more comfortable. She made a miraculous recovery, and is now the fat and sassy kitty you see here!

Spooky is our craziest cat! He can usually be found knocking things off our desks, or dropping his toys in the dog's water dish, or engaged in similar mayhem!

Casey was very timid when he first came to us. But now he is such a love! He and Spooky are inseparable...and he just loves the dog!
